Joan Moulton worked for four years as a research assistant in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University, as a technical laboratory assistant in veterinary pathology and electron microscopy. She worked from 1980 to 1986 as the technical writer for applications for the accounting and UAW union membership software applications at K.I Software Corporation.

Joan currently works as a data analyst and image librarian for the Silent Infarct Transfusion Trial and the CT Image Library of the National Lung Screening Trial.
